Driving Day #3
I crawled into the drivers seat still in my
pjs, no make up and my hair scraped back in a messy top-knot and scoffed an
apricot Danish before embarking on the 475k drive from Franz Josef to Kaiteriteri.
It was by far the longest trip of journey
and judging from my numb-bum and pins-and-needle-y hand it wasn’t that
enjoyable.
Judging from the photos though, it was
definitely worth it. Rolling farmland, snow capped mountains and the sea
followed us all the way to Abel Tasman National Park.
When we pulled into Kaiteriteri, we found a
little camp spot right on the beach. Not a bad view to wake up too.
After a long and tiring day of driving, I
jumped out of the van and we made our way straight over to the beach.
As it started to rain, we ambled over to
the pub where we were treated to delicious pizza, a well-deserved pint and a
few tunes from a man and his electric guitar. Before the heavens completely
opened, we ran back to the van to snuggle up with Harry Potter and the pouring
rain to send us to sleep. The perfect end to a long day.
