The Pinnacles

After Natalie left Perth for Sri Lanka, I continued up the West Coast on a nine day tour with Aussie Wanderer. After some tentative sand boarding at the Lancelin Dunes we took a wander through the mysterious Pinnacles Desert in the Nambung National Park.

Tall rocks (up to 3.5 metres) reach out of the bright yellow ground as far as the eye can see.

No one is completely certain as to how these strange rock formations came about but the most popular view is weather erosion with the rocks we can see today being the leftovers of a thick bed of limestone.

But to me it just seemed like a sci-fi film set.

A peculiar place but being only 250 kilometres north of Perth it's worth a visit.
